Akshaya Navami, also known as Amala Naumi, is the ninth day during waxing phase of the moon in Kartik or Kartika Month in a traditional Hindu calendar. In 2010, the date of Akshay Navami is November 15. The popular belief is that the Treta Yuga started on this day. Some people refer the day as the beginning of the Satyuga. An important event on Akshay Navmi is the distribution of alms and receiving of presents.
The day is observed as Akshay Navami Parikarama Divas in North India. Goddess Jagadhatri is worshipped on the day in West Bengal. Vrindavan Mathura Parikarma is also observed on this day.
Legend has it that Lord Surya (Sun God) worshipped Goddess Durga on this day and was rewarded properties that is in possession of him. Therefore it is believed that which is given on the day will never be destroyed but will only result in growth.
Kushmanda Navami – kushmand Ninth
Kushmanda navami, also known as kushmand Ninth, is observed on Shukla Paksha Navami day in Kartik month. Kushmanda Navami 2010 date is November 15th. Kushmand Navmi is named after Kushmand fruit (pumpkin). It is also associated with the legend of kushmandasur Vadha (demolition of demon Kushmanda) by Lord Vishnu.
Kushmand Navami is associated with a popular legend of two brahmin brothers called Dhananjaya and krishna. They lived a happy life together and when they died Dhananjay attains the heaven whereas his brother, Krishna, was sent to hell. It is because of their results of puja and daan during the month of Kartik. Dhananjay performed Kartik Snan and donated a pumpkin full of gold to a Brahmin. But was unable to do the punya karya and puja during Kartik maas. Thus, it is believed that those who perform charity or offer food or any other offerings to Brahmin or to any poor during kartik month will attain salvation.
Kruta Yugadi or Satya Yugadi – Beginning of Golden Era of Kruta Yugam
Kruta Yugadi or Satya Yugadi, the beginning of kruta Yugam or Satya yugam, is observed on Akshaya navami, Kartik Shukla Navami day. Kruta yugadi 2010 date is November 15. Kruta Yugam, also known as Satya Yugam, is considered as the Golden age as per Hinduism. This Yuga (era) is also known as the era of truth. This is the first yuga according to Hindu beliefs.
